I had been following RAV4 offers since 2019, and after a long period of research and test driving, I finally bought the 2021 RAV4 Hybrid at a great price with some extras. The car is comfortable and stable, with excellent fuel consumption at around 6.3L/100km. I compared it directly with the CR-V — the exterior design caught my eye from the start, and over time, I grew to accept the interior, especially after the updated screen. The downsides are the soft brakes that take some getting used to, and a few basic interior trims — but overall, I’m very satisfied with the car.

The Toyota Highlander has a bold, premium-looking exterior but is still easy to handle for daily use. The interior is simple and practical, though the plastic feel is noticeable. Wind noise becomes more noticeable after 90 km/h. Space is great for five passengers; the third row is okay for short trips but not ideal for long drives. Performance is decent, especially with the hybrid assist during takeoff, but it can feel a bit sluggish if you drive gently. Fuel consumption is excellent — as low as 4.6 L/100 km on short trips, and usually stays between 5–6 L depending on your driving style.

Driving the Prado is lighter and easier than I expected for a vehicle of its size. The steering is very responsive and flexible. However, the engine noise is quite noticeable and sounds a bit rough, especially when the engine kicks in after running on electric mode — things are quiet and smooth on electricity, but once the engine starts, the sound becomes prominent.
Fuel consumption is really low. I haven’t taken it on long trips yet, but in the city, it doesn’t exceed 10L/100km. When I fill the tank, it shows a range of about 500 km — which is decent, but honestly, the fuel tank feels a bit small.
The safety features are excellent. It has automatic emergency braking both front and rear, which is a great addition. The seats are a bit firm, but they offer good back support.
One thing I don’t like is that you can’t fully turn off the headlights — they switch on automatically even before it gets dark. The smart system (infotainment and services) is free for the first five years, but no one seems to know how much the subscription will cost afterward — not even the dealership staff.
Tip for anyone buying: when negotiating the price, ask them to activate the hidden features. For example, the windows don’t roll up automatically when you lock the car, and if you go back to the dealership to enable it later, they’ll charge you — which is kind of unreasonable.
The trunk is spacious, but because of the battery placement, the floor is a bit high, which makes it harder to load and unload things. Rear legroom is average — if the front seats are reclined a bit, it gets a bit tight in the back. I’ve only had the car for a week, and these are my first impressions.

The first thing that made me fall in love with the car is its classic boxy design — it gives off a bold and rugged vibe, which I really like. Second, the power has clearly improved compared to the previous generation; you can feel the car is more responsive and stronger, especially when accelerating. Third, thankfully, the features are no longer basic like before — now it comes with all the essential functions plus a lot of extras that cover most people's needs. Fourth, the second-row space is honestly a bit tight, but the trunk is spacious and can carry a lot, which is great for road trips and travel. Fifth, I really liked the steering wheel — it’s a huge improvement from the old model. It feels lighter, easier to control, and gives better feedback.
As for the downsides — like they say, nothing is perfect — there’s some engine noise, especially during heavy acceleration, and the sound isn’t the best; it feels a bit rough. The infotainment system doesn’t match what you’d find in electric or hybrid vehicles — there’s a noticeable gap in quality. One thing that hasn’t improved much from the previous model is the vibration when driving on concrete roads — the car shakes a lot in that condition, unlike something like a Land Cruiser, which gives much more comfort. So if you're looking for a super smooth ride, I wouldn’t recommend an off-road SUV. Currently, the fuel consumption is around 14 liters per 100 km.

Look, I'm one of those people who did a lot of research before buying a car. I tried everything from the Geely StarRay to the Nissan Sentra and the Volkswagen Jetta. But in the end, I went back to the classics and chose the 2021 Toyota Corolla 1.2T Plus—because, quite simply, it doesn't come with problems, and that's the most important thing for someone in their 30s with a job, a home, and responsibilities.
I bought it with a few extras thrown in, like LED headlights, parking sensors, window tinting, floor mats, and 7 free maintenance services.
The car won't blow your mind or steal your heart, but it’ll stick with you and do its job. It's comfortable, smooth, has solid suspension, and its performance is more than enough for daily drives—you don’t need to fly.
The interior is simple but comfy. The console doesn’t have CarPlay, but it's not the end of the world—I just connect it via Wi-Fi and that’s it. Fuel consumption is around 6.3L per 100 km, and I drive calmly.
In short, the Corolla isn’t the best car in everything, but it's probably the one with the least headaches—and that matters more than fancy specs or a big screen.
